All I Want for Christmas is Shu

– By Priya Roy –

From Karl Lagerfeld and Shu Uemura comes the eye-popping world of Mon Shu Uemura; a charming make-up collaboration that will undoubtedly be scribbled onto the Christmas lists of fashion and beauty lovers everywhere. Following Mr. Lagerfeld’s announcement that he has long used Shu Uemura’s eye shadow to paint his sketches, the eagerly anticipated range combines the designer’s Midas touch with the innovation and cult status of the Japanese super brand. And the result is quite simply, delightful. Each piece is packed with Karl/Shu charisma and is intricately woven to fit with the collection’s story.

At the heart of this story, is its adorable muse, Mon Shu Girl. A sketch who has leapt from page to life, she embodies the tone entirely – ‘a celebration of Japanese pop and European chic’ – and adorns every item’s packaging. She sports a perfectly cut, angular bob, wide rabbit-in-the-headlights eyes, and, of course, impeccable style, with an unmistakeable Lagerfeld dress code of crisp white shirt collar and black tie.

Shu Uemura classics are reinvented to make up the covetable 17-piece collection, with products including brightly coloured palettes, lipsticks and nail polishes named ‘Parisienne Pink’ and ‘Shu Shu Red.  Perfectly kitsch eyelashes in flutters of black and red accompany a reworking of the brand’s famous eyelash curlers. There is even a professional make-up box on offer, each one hand crafted by artisans and decorated, naturally, with a little Mon Shu Girl. The full range is available to buy at
