Glam Tip: A Textured Up-do for an Evening Soiree

On an elegant evening in Lisbon, the dress code was black tie and with the theme of tiara’s for the women’s hair, we got to create something truly romantic and royal with a modern twist. Olivia donned a shiny gold masterpiece from Jennifer Behr so we decided, as a nice contrast, to create a matte texture in her hair.
I started with my curling iron to create waves but in a very disorganised way, making sure nothing really appeared too structred however always keeping the ends straight (too curly can appear too fussy and dainty and we were aiming for the opposite kind of impact).
To create the texture, I used a lot of ocean spray from Franck Provost Paris and then dried it with my diffuser to set this very light and messy texture. A great dry shampoo will also help in producing this type of texture as well.
Now, in order to create the actual updo there are a few steps to take. One, make a few braids or dreads throughout the hair. Don’t worry, they won’t be seen, it’s just to add some messiness and will also help to make a strong base to fix the tiara onto. From there, place the hair up with bobby pins, wrapping around and isolating all around the face placing the tiara so that it frames the face and the neck. Allow for flyaways to increase the romantic look of it and we even added a few pieces of fabric with gold leaf to bring out even more of the details.
*Remember, it has to look messy and undone (it’s all about the texture!). Just work with the hair how it wants to go and let it fall naturally.
