Beauty How-To: Olivia’s Sleek Rope Braid w/ Latex

Our star hair stylist, Lacy Redway, gave Olivia an ultra sleek and chic look at Tuesday night’s “An Evening Honoring Valentino” event. Read on to see how you can replicate OP’s red carpet look.

Because of the Romantic feeling a Valentino gown gives, I wanted to completely off set that with an edgy and more severe look which came compliments of latex and a super sleek and shiny rope braid.

I started off by parting Olivia’s hair in a deep center part, then with a little R+Co Chiffon Styling Mousse I used a paddle brush to smooth her hair down and secure the part into place. For even more  of a hold – and to eliminate all fly-always – I added Moco De Gorila Punk Squizz Hair Gel onto the hair and  used my Ibiza GL7  hair brush to place her hair back into a ponytail, secured with a “Bungee” hair band and wrapped a piece of latex fabric to hide the ponytail holder.

Next, I cut a piece of fabric large enough to go around the top of the ponytail (tying it in a knot underneath so it wasn’t visible) and having it act as a headband to accent the ponytail.

I finished this look off with a rope braid. Because I wanted absolutely no fly aways in this look and to really see the definition of the rope braid, I used a little more hair gel into the ponytail, twisting it all the way down to the ends and securing it with an elastic.

Side note: As this look requires a little more hold than usual I suggest using a Clarifying shampoo like Kerastase Specifique Bain Clarifiant Shampoo to remove any product built up from your hair when your ready to remove this hairstyle.
