Beauty Roundup: Paris Fashion Week Favorites

Paris is the matriarch of fashion. The mother to everything we hold dear when it comes to the art of dressing, designing and beauty. From the extravagance of Marie Antoinette to the founding of Vogue in 1892 to the revelation that was Yves Saint Laurent, the world innately trusts Paris as the final word on trendsetting style. Spring 2016 gave us a plethora of beauty looks to awe over. Beautifully matched with the collections they accompianed, these styles have staying power and we think a few easily qualify for early-adopter status…

Laquered Lips — While a matte red lip is – at this point – as classic as the ballet flat, two amazing collections gave us glossy lip envy. Nina Ricci’s girls had pouts to match their laquered jackets and high-shine looks. While the show’s makeup artist did a bit of his own creative magic, mixing together a handful of products for the perfect effect, we recommend Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Stain in Blood Red for a near-perfect recreation.

Kenzo’s girls featured a fascinating brick red we’re dying to try as an alternative to our true-red lipstick collections. Feel free to try Stila’s Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Scarlet Vinyl to replicate it.

The Perfect Face — A touch of primer or BB cream, a dab of bubble gum pink color to the cheeks for an innocent flush and eyebrow gel is all you need to look youthfully stunning a la Alexander McQueen’s beauties. Of course, we also saw fresh faces at Emanuel Ungaro and Isabel Marant. Lisa Butler, who worked on Marant’s look, told Harper’s Bazaar her trick for a flawless under eye was tattoo coverup.

We couldn’t help but swoon over Dior’s pink-faced beauties who looked like the very first breath of spring themselves. And we couldn’t help but get excited to let our lip and cheek colors do double duty on our lids, a la the show.

Effortless Tresses — There were so many stylist-inspired inspiration at the shows, it was difficult to favor one collection. But at the end of the day we had to go with something incredibly chic, and truly effortless. Whether you use it for first, second or third-day hair, this is going to be our go-to pulled-back look for post-blow out looks. We’re talking about Balenciaga’s loose, low pony and bun combination. Little could be easier to pull off at home. Loosely pull hair back in a low pony tail with a transparent elastic; as you pull the hair thorugh the elastic for the last time, don’t pull through all the way, so you have a partial bun with long ends. Push strands of hair behind the ears for that perfect, added, effortless touch. Voila.
