Collection Spotlight: Khaite Resort 2019

Cate Holstein the creative mastermind behind ready-to-wear brand Khaite. She launched the line in Fall 2016 with a strong value proposition that set her apart from the rest – strong, clean lines, structured silhouettes and a palpable sense of feminine-esque sportswear. Holstein found a gap in the market for sport-max that was durable, functional and flattering.

Having been raised in London and California, Catherine went on to study fashion and fine arts at Parsons. Being acknowledged for her talents at a young age, she dropped out of school to pursue her intuit calling – her own line. However, she still held a zest for learning and went back to school some years later to advance her skill set and knowledge. After working for the likes of Vera Wang, JCrew, and The Elder Statesman, Catherine was encouraged to start up a new label, and that how Khaite was born.

Fast forward to her Resort 19′ collection, we can see her initial elements of casual sportswear with a feminine thread, come through. A powder pink, asymmetric pleated skirt is styled with a boyfriend blazer of the same hue, and paired with high court shoes. While this may be ideal for work, there is plenty in this range for those who prefer playing. A mini polka dotted midi dress with up-and-down hemline, high key-hole neck and long and lean sleeves is a beautiful breath of fresh air on a classic print trend, while a chunky, striped knit in oatmeal and black is set to be a staple in all Fall wardrobes. The resort collection boasts primal and strong colors like tomato, bright white, dark navy, noir and mustard, woven into a textured, well-thought-out line that is accessible, wearable and attainable. Khaite set out on a mission to offer an approachable masculinity that didn’t sacrifice the feminine touch, and it worked.
