January 5, 2016 Collection Spotlight: Thurley Winter 2016 Founded by Melbourne-based designer Helen O’Conor who made her debut at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week in 2006, the launch of Thurley was inspired by a scholarship awarded to O’Connor at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. In 2008, Thurley was a finalist in the prestigious LMFF Designer Award presented by Woolmark and from that foundation the label has continued to develop a strong following and reputation among those in the industry. Drawing inspiration from experiences of travel, culture and art, Helen injects Thurley with a strong sense of personality. With its name passed down through O’Connor’s Irish descendants – from O’Connor’s great auntie to her mother – the label has personal relevance and history. Each season the collection features timeless pieces that are both modern and classic, specializing in eveningwear with a focus on masterfully embroidered dresses, extravagant outerwear and elegant gowns. Thurley revitalizes ancient handcrafted techniques, sourcing skilled artisans to manufacture the pieces. It is this process and dedication to detail that sets Thurley apart.
