Designers to Watch: Dimos Natar and Andreas Georgious

Dimos Natar and Andreas Georgious have come a long way since Vogue Italia cited them ‘ones to watch’ in 2012. The Greek Cypriot duo are known for their innovative approach to pattern cutting, crochet and altogether deconstructed aesthetic.

After studying separately in London, the duo met at Cyprus Fashion Week and set their sights on building an international brand. Now a regular fixture during Paris Fashion Week the team have become synonymous with whimsical proportional play, combining a unique patchwork of fabrics and textures from their cage-like crochet to use of abstract lace panelling and micro waffle knits.

There’s a light-hearted confidence about Natargeorgiou; sure their designs are made to highlight and complement every curve, colours are bold and brash and prints will certainly make sure you stand out from the crowd, but it feels fun.

In contrast to the fresh simplicity that spring/summer 2017 brought about (all white and yellow with spaghetti straps and fluid frills), autumn/winter feels decidedly more indulgent. The fabrics are heavier, more luxurious and feature a heady mix of fringed, frilled and appliqued embellishment. The colour palette is deeper too, with accents of navy and cornflower blue alongside a rusty hued velvet, cream and black.

Calf-length dresses come with deep v necklines or boxy with pinafore-like straps. We love a pair of wide culottes in sheer lace teamed with a matching top with dramatic frills down its long sleeves. The outfit is made all-the-more glam with black panelling underneath. The duo’s signature fanciful take is there too, with oversized sweaters that should be worn over delicate skirts and a velour tracksuit, covered in the most beautiful floral embellishment. And then there’s the shoes – strappy sandals covered in fringing and desirable to say the least.
