Designers To Watch: Mansur Gavriel

Ever since friends Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel debuted their range of classic lined, simple shaped Tuscan leather bucket bags and totes last summer, Mansur Gavriel has become a fashion insiders favorite, spawning waiting lists, sold out notifications and insane eBay markups around the globe.

Inspired by the contrast of warm, natural textures and the clear, clean intensity of pop colors, Mansur Gavriel leather bags evoke Italy in the ’60′s, or a classic California easiness – warm, natural leather, sunny colors, and a casual elegance.

Both Rachel and Floriana have backgrounds in design. Gavriel has worked as a designer for Lanvin in Paris, and Mansur studied textile design at Rhode Island School of Design. After spending several months developing samples, they moved to New York to launch the label, while the bags were produced in the Veneto region of Italy.

One of the great things about Mansur Gavriel’s bags is that aside from a discrete gold-embossed label, there’s no obvious branding and you can customize the lining with fun, bright colors making the bag truly your own.

Previously these bags, in particular the bucket style, have been notoriously hard to come by, but thankfully the brand recently launched an online store meaning you can now shop from the comfort of your own home. With prices ranging from $460 to $950, these bags are ideal for women who want low-key luxury without overt logos or a hefty price tag.
