Designers to Watch: Marina Moscone

Former Design Director for Peter Som, Marina Moscone has mastered the art of luxury both impeccably and seamlessly. The brand, founded in 2016 by Marina and Francesca Moscone, sisters of Italian and South African roots, have reached a level of coveted romanticism and modernism in women’s ready to wear. “She (Francesca) handles all of the commercial aspects of the business while I spearhead the creative. We are very committed to our brand, and we try to push our teams and give them all of the tools that they need to succeed.  I think embracing that is important in order to pursue the bigger picture,” Moscone said.

With a focus on Italian textile use and constructed craftsmanship, Mascone’s collections exude femininity in the most subtle and desirable of ways. The brand prides itself on working with some of the oldest Italian fabric mills that have been passed down from generation to generation. Their passion for quality and execution is a crucial part of making the brand an overall success.

Having attended the Parsons School of Design in New York, and sketching her visions from an early age, Moscone has always stayed true to her philosophies in how women portray their confidence and vigor. “I love to sketch out shapes and turn that into a texture – whether it’s a woolen check like this Fall/Winter season, or Resorts wood-grain print that we burned out of a liquid-like satin,” Moscone explained.

For Fall 17’, Moscone has developed 26 looks, all of which are the right combination of tailored sophistication and polished sexiness. From full skirts to crafted blazers and jackets, Moscone opens variety and possibility for today’s fashionable women. Her creations provide empowerment while being tasteful and timeless. Moscone shared, “She (the woman) is in a zone of ethereal elegance meets this sort of rebellion. I really love some of the Anselm Kiefer paintings, particularly the shades of midnight blue and the falling stars – it’s very romantic and the colors are spectacular.”

Shades of deep orange, creamy beiges and rich velvets embody what Moscone believes to make women confident and comfortable, and she could not be more on point. Silk dresses topped with chunky knit sweaters are every fashionista’s dream. Tuxedo inspired sets can be transformed from the office to a night on the town thanks to the ridiculously flawless detail. As for muses and inspiration when creating a collection, “It’s impossible to have just one. I could go on and on naming the obvious – young Sophia Loren, David Bowie, Princess Diana, Jane Birkin…there are hundreds of muses, actors, musicians, etcetera, and that’s not even scratching the surface. I am moved every day because I am surrounded by such inspiring women,” Moscone said.

In terms of what we can see in the near future and next seasons, “Each collection is a constant evolution of the brands DNA – understated luxury, subtle feminine elements, modern elegance and a romantic attitude with flawless fit, fabric and construction,” Moscone shared. Sold at true designer price point, one can find Moscone’s collections on Moda Operandi, Forty Five Ten, as well as her ecommerce site. Take it from us, good things are coming from Marina Moscone.
