Designers to Watch: Nom de Mode

Mandeep and Hardeep Chohan know luxe. Not only that, the twin sisters know outerwear, too. In fact, they’ve created a label, Nom de Mode, around these two very things. We’re talking, long cashmere waistcoats with brocade trim, short Spring wool coats in the fairest of blues. So far, they have just two collections – AW14 and SS15 – and everything’s made in England, in exclusive runs. The photographs of their collections, usually involving flowers on the set, feel authentic and honest, no clever showmanship behind the lens, or in front of it. Basically, the garments speak for themselves.

The Brit girls – who are trained in law and literature respectively – were born to Indian parents, and while raised in London, they made several trips back to northern India. It was the beautiful materials and amazing craftsmanship that called to them. From day one of their new fashion venture, they looked to their heritage.

But that isn’t their only source of inspiration. The pair frequently call on their much-loved idea of a well-turned out, sophisticated woman. The Nom de Mode woman isn’t just intelligent, she’s styleintelligent, doting on unique silhouettes, flow and ease. The girls themselves enjoy living this way, and have a favourite motto: ‘Live your life with style, panache and wit’.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
