Designers to Watch: Sophia Kah

Sophia Kah is slowly but surely creeping up the industries hot-list. Known for her romantic eveningwear, Ana Sophia Teixeira de Sousa intertwines vintage-like embellishments and signature lace accents with modern feminine silhouettes resulting in Sophia Kah being the go-to brand for all things after-dark. Originating from two generations of women with a dab hand in textiles, Ana Sophia learned to sew from her grandmother which in turn sparked an interest for all things haberdashery and luxury fabrics.

Sophia Kah was created to enhance the strength of a woman, to provide her with clothing that will empower her and aid her in standing out from the crowd. Ana Sophia’s, passion lies in this very notion that her dresses should be an extension of a woman’s personality, almost like an accessory. From her previous three collections, we can see that a signature pattern has emerged. Lightweight lace with exposed drawstring corsetry has become one of the collections trademarks.

Starting off her career in 2010 in simple, yet elegant eveningwear, the Portuguese designer is branching out into more casual pieces for SS17. Her new collection incorporates denim and cotton dresses in an array of daywear. Playing with subtle accents such as broderie anglaise, tulle and layered lace paneling, Ana Sophia has made it possible to wear luxe during the day. If you’re looking for a brand that will serve you well for occasional dressing in the light or dark, may we suggest you turn towards Sophia Kah for all your wardrobe needs?
