Fall 2015 Runway Spotlight: Tibi’s 20th Runway Show

“I’m nervous, I’m always nervous”, Amy Smilovic declared before showcasing her Fall 2015 collection which also marked Tibi’s 20th runway show. As old friends, there’s never a show that Olivia doesn’t end up backstage to wish Amy good luck beforehand and as we skimmed a quick preview of the collection before it hit the public eye we were both quick to tell her that she had nothing to be nervous about.

It seemed almost kismet that Amy channeled the Inuit culture and Arctic climate for FW15 considering as the collection was coming down the runway there was a blustery snow whipping up outside during one of the more chilly NYFW that we can remember. The palette was full of creams, navy and greys, a favorite of the Tibi brand, with a cozy addition of icy pastels like mint and  seen in head-to-toe looks that made us wonder why we automatically associate pastels with Spring rather than Winter. Another Tibi staple were the oversized cuts of many of the pieces like blazers and outerwear which were paired with front pleated culottes and suede wrapped midi skirts giving a nod to school-boy chic.

There was a large concentration on yummy knits, “I played a lot with texture this time”, which presented itself in nubby shearlings, intarsias, mohair and wool-blends all of which we wanted to snatch off the models bodies and immediately curl up in. There was innovation in the accessories as Amy brought back the rounded toe in flatforms and shearling covered slippers but also tried her hand at collaborating with a jewelry brand for the first time which simply complimented the clothes and made it seem as if she’d been doing it since day one. In the end, the collection was fitting for the Tibi girl, uber cool ensembles that could be worn together or worn as separates that remained sophisticated and polished no matter how you put them together.
