Get the Look: Making Half-Up Hair Cool Again

Doing a half-up hairstyle can sometimes end up too preppy and even junior looking never mind come close to becoming appropriate for an edgy editorial look. Luckily, Lacy Redway shares one of her latest creations as she styled Olivia’s hair flawlessly for an upcoming spread. Read her how-to steps below, shop the products and scroll through the slideshow to see how you can mirror Olivia’s look strand by strand.

The first thing I did was prep Olivia’s hair with Bed Head Superstar Queen for a Day Thickening Spray and then did a rough dry with an Amika hairdryer to give it hold yet the messy texture we were looking for.

For this particular look, once the hair is texturized, back comb the hair at the base for extra volume and a messier look.

Separate the hair into two sections – top and bottom (as pictured above). First, section the top portion into a ponytail at the crown of the head, pulling the hair straight back so the part is covered all the while letting wispy pieces fall out around the nape of the neck and around the face.

For the second section, start creating 2nd ponytail approximately three inches below the first. Start pulling the 2nd pony into the elastic but stop before pulling all the way through, leaving pieces out of the bottom of the elastic to create a messy bun.

Finish the entire look with L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray.
