Glam Tip: Have Them Hanging on Your Every Word

We’ve all been there – you walk into a party, scan the room, and realize you don’t know a single person there. You may be tempted to turn around and run, or perhaps to stand in a corner, waiting for your “friend” to arrive (sighing dramatically and repeatedly glancing at your watch, of course).   As fun as that is, you might want to rethink your party strategy.  First and foremost, it’s always important to be yourself.  If you’re not the kind of person who feels comfortable jumping into the middle of a large group to tell a joke or amusing story, don’t force it.  Form a connections with people on your own terms.  Keep your body language open: don’t cross your arms or stand with your body turned away from the person you’re speaking with.  Asking questions is a great way of showing your interest in the other person, but steer away from anything to personal at the risk of upsetting or offending them.  If all else fails, try touching upon non-controversal current events.  Neutral territory like this can have a revitalizing effect on a conversation.
