November 7, 2011 I Want What She’s Wearing: Mixed Materials – By Teresa Greenfeld – Olivia in an Armani wool and fur detail jacket, Tibi leather camisole & silk pants, and B Brian Atwood boots. Photo by Benjamin Stelly In New York, the aisles of Duane Reade, the pharmacy found on every other block, are filled with garlands and twinkle lights. The face of a certain gentleman, whose stomach resembles a bowl full of jelly, can be found, eyes twinkling, on every imaginable surface. Sesonally themed tunes have begun to make their way into television commercials and out of store speakers. Cuff from Olivia’s private collection. Photo by Benjamin Stelly Like it or not, the holiday season, it seems, is upon us. This year espicially promises an abundance of holiday parties, cocktails and dinners, and the thought of seeing the same tired and overdone holiday attire is causing some very Grinch-ly thoughts to dance in my head. Dressing for these holiday themed events has become too predictable; it’s almost as if everyone Google’s “Holiday+Party+Outfit” and dresses accordingly. B Brian Atwood ‘Paramour’ Booties. Photo by Benjamin Stelly Instead of outfits that can only be worn a few times a year, incorporate beautiful pieces in different and interesting ways, as Olivia has here. Her mix of textures can be done to suit both a dressier occasion, and an every day look. The trick is to substitute one or two pieces with a more occasion appropriate one. Her wool and feather jacket, for example, paired with a tissue thin white T, leather leggings, and a jeweled flat, dresses the look down appropriately for a brunch date. Olivia’s silk Tibi pants, paired with a light sweater, wedge booties and a leather jacket would work for a casual dinner out. Mixing different textures is a simple yet sophisticated way to instantly add a richness and styled look to your wardrobe. Now, I beg you, no holiday sweaters. I will come after you. Here are three versions of Olivia’s outfit, plus casual ways to wear it! ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Pair a fur embellished jacket with a leather pant and a printed silk top. A jeweled bootie and spiked cuff add an edgy flair to this Party-ready look.
