K-Beauty How-to: Glowing Summer Skin

With the official start of summer just days away (and some days already feeling like it) we sat down and had a quick chat with two of our favorite K-beauty experts, Sarah and Christina from Glow Recipe to pick their brains on what products they’re using to keep their skin glowing all season long.

Sarah Lee –

When the temperature is warmer, you’re more likely to have higher sebum production, so I like to transition from thick emollient creams to light gel textures. In order to keep the skin balanced, it’s helpful to use products with breathable, lightweight gel textures that cool the skin’s temperature. I recommend using the Blithe Crystal Iceplant Pressed Serum—it’s incredibly lightweight and cooling with crystal iceplant, moringa seed oil and lavender extracts, and adds an effortless glow that doesn’t look greasy.

I mist more in warm weather also, because it’s so cooling and makes it feel like my skin is getting a light breeze.

Adding a few rubber masks into your routine is another way to beat the summer heat. My favorite is the MD’s Pick Aqua Moist Water Rubber Mask because it moisturizes, detoxifies and feels icy cool so it’s instantly refreshing. Sebum production makes pores more visible, so if you need more pore refinement, use Lindsay’s Charcoal Modeling Rubber Mask.

Christine Chang –

Spring’s sun rays are most detrimental to skin because it’s already vulnerable and dehydrated from harsh winter. Luckily, there are newer sun protection options that make sunscreen feel less like a chore. Clearer formulations provide adequate protection without adding a ghostly white cast, which makes it great for all skin types. If you haven’t tried double layering your sunscreen, now is the best time to try. After applying a full layer of sunscreen under your makeup, lightly press a clear sunscreen like Make P:rem’s Capsule Sun Gel on top of your skin like a highlighter.

When the season changes, skin tends to get a little flaky as it adjusts to a new environment. The 7-skin method (applying toner seven times) is a very powerful way to hydrate skin with a smooth, lit-from-within glow. If skin looks persistently flaky, exfoliate diligently to resurface skin. Our Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask and Dr.G Brightening Peeling Gel have gentle acids that will give your skin the refresh it needs.

Sheet masks are also really soothing for your skin—just put them in the fridge for 30 minutes for an extra-cooling effect.
