Lines We Love: Adam Lippes

– By Sara Micelotta –

If there is one word to describe Adam Lippes’ women’s wear line, its versatile. Whether you’re meeting friends for lunch in the ever-popular Montauk, or jetting to the Italian Riviera, Mr. Lippes’ refined-yet-chic sportswear line can accommodate all of your fashion-related needs. Oh, and he’s a member of the CFDA—need I say more?

After graduating from Cornell in 1994, Lippes set out for France, where he continued his studies at the American University in Paris. Fast-forward two years and Lippes is climbing the corporate ladder at Oscar de la Renta, eventually ‘landing’ in the role of Global Creative Director at the eponymous fashion house. Crediting de la Renta for nurturing his innate style, Lippes decided to take his career to the next level. He started his cotton basics label early in 2004, garnering the attention of Oprah Winfrey, who placed his basic t-shirt on her coveted Favorite Things list in 2006. Shortly after, he launched his casually elegant women’s sportswear line—and the rest is history.

Most recently on the designers’ plate is his new label, Adam Lippes.  Having just launched for Fall 2013, his newest collection uses mixed mediums, clean lines and juxtaposing silhouettes producing a mature departure from his previous line ADAM.  In the name of all that is luxe, slick leathers were formed into straight leg trousers while intricate lace patterns were imparted on a covetable pair of voluminous culottes and eggshell and race-car red silks were paired with matching separates, introducing a new alternative to the traditional suit.  While being known in the fashion industry as laid-back with an ultra chic demeanor, it’s easy to say after his latest presentation that the sky’s the limit for this talented artist.
