Lines We Love: Chinti and Parker

– By Sarah-Leigh Wade –

Forget for just a minute about the endless cycle of fast fashion, trends that come and go, looks that pass and fade. Out in the world’s most fashion conscious cities are a collection of brands dedicated to supplying our wardrobes with the basic essentials that every style conscious woman needs.

London based label Chinti and Parker is one such brand, built on creating clean, clever staples to bolster our everyday wardrobes. Using 100% organic fabrics, with every effort made to manufacture in an environmentally responsible way, founders and cousins Anna Singh and Rachael Wood aim to provide luxe basics that stand the test of time.

Evoking an effortless throw-on chic, for spring/summer 12 the brand presents a classic collection in a fresh primary palette. Open-back midi dresses, wide-necked tees and delicate knit layers with golden yellow, coral and cobalt accents make for a Montauk kind of cool, while bold graphic stripes and spirited polka dots add a playful touch. Using well-appointed textiles including Italian cashmere, linen-cotton and 100% bamboo, silky smooth textures add to the pure, luxurious nature of the collection.

For autumn/winter 12 Chinti and Parker are inspired by New Wave’s cinematic heroines, combining warming winter hues with playful Americana graphics of ditsy stars and again, polka dots. Gently tailored touches and androgynous shapes combine with a beatnik feel, juxtaposed against oversized Aran sweaters and outsize knitted kimono jackets.

Subtle preppy, nautical references remain for fall, with bold stripes encasing boatneck sweaters and cashmere crewnecks, while fine-gauge knits with buttoned-backs have hems dipped in fine patterns. Although spoiled for choice, Team Olivia’s favourite piece has to be the versatile and sublimely simple asphalt grey Fishergirl sweater.

Once in a while you come across a brand that really seems to have women sussed. Of course, for many of us there will always be seasonal spaces in our wardrobes for whatever the latest must-have item is, but for fail-safes that stand up to the everyday, are timeless in style and faultless in quality, we recommend Chinti and Parker as the ultimate essential.
