Lines We Love: No. 21

– By Sara Micelotta –

Alessandro Dell’Acqua is no stranger to the fashion scene. The Italian-born designer debuted his first solo pret-a-porter women’s collection in 1996, with his men’s line following two years later. After his not-so-surprising success with his namesake collection, Dell’Acqua was appointed Creative Director of La Perla’s ready-to-wear line—a post which he held for six years. Under his direction, a brand typically lauded for its fabulous lingerie was transformed into a multi-purpose destination for the serious fashionista. Although we were all sad to see him leave the iconic brand after his Spring 2009 show in Milan, Dell’Acqua’s new line—No. 21—which first appeared on the runway in the Fall of 2010, did not disappoint by any standard.

No. 21 (or numero ventuno as its referred to in Italy) is Dell’Acqua’s attempt to bridge the gap between English and Italian style, which he brings together in an oh-so-effortless union. With contrasting hues of blacks and whites and pops of bold colors (see S/S 2013 line), the designer achieves everything he has set out to accomplish—and more. Not afraid to mix textures and trends, Dell’Acqua often brings alternative ideas into each of his designs; however, this mere departure from the norm gives his pieces their allure.
