Lines We Love: Sanayi 313

Turkish brand Sanayi 313 isn’t just about shoes. Granted, their traditional, Ottoman-inspired footwear with a beautifully eccentric twist has become adored by the fashion press and glitterati alike, but for this label, founded by brothers Amir and Enis, its more about a lifestyle.

Set in the creative and cultural hub that is Istanbul’s Maslak Ataturk Oto Sanayi district, Sanayi 313 HQ brings together a coveted restaurant, interior design and residential architecture practice and is of course home to their atelier, creating accessories and that footwear.

Sanayi 313’s sibling founders joined forces with Serena Uziyel, a Parsons School of Design graduate, to launch the brand. Having studied shoe-making in Milan and Florence, she cut her teeth in Zara’s design team before moving back to her native Turkey to set up shop.

The footwear formula is relatively simple. Shoes typically come in a mule or slipper shape, with chunky mid-heels, skinny stilettos, or super-sleek flats. What’s not so simple however is their array of embellishments – oversized tassels or a carpet of studs adorning pretty much the whole shoe, fringed bows, voluminous embroidered decorations… Then of course the line of clutches, boxes and small bags are made to match. Arachnid adorned pointed slipper and matching clutch anyone?? Trust us, they’re epic.

Sanayi 313’s palette is typically muted, monochromatic, with golden and rust tones. For their latest spring/summer collection things feel a little ethnic with the use of raffia, while for their Cruise offering metallics and a blush pink are added and the embellishments get wilder, bigger.

Today the brand is stocked globally, as well as being available online and in their Istanbul flagship. For those that feel the Sanayi 313 spirit there’s also a blog to pour over and films that document this extraordinary concept’s journey so far.
