Marissa Webb x Banana Republic Summer 2015 Collection

Out with the old and in with the new. In hopes of reinventing their identity and reviving their consumers’ love of the brand, Banana Republic appointed Marissa Webb as their new Creative Director this past April. Having recently left the J.Crew trenches to launch her own line last Spring, Marissa Webb was quick to take the reigns and as anyone could see at her debut collection this past Monday at Milk Studios, she’s moving full steam ahead with this wonderful transformation.

The drastic shift started with the silhouettes. There was a chic mix of masculine and feminine, like a cropped poplin button-down paired with a floral midi-skirt, while texture and proper layering provided a very necessary injection of youth and vibrancy sending out an abrupt wake up call for us all to pay attention to the new direction Webb is taking. There was certainly still a lady-like aspect to the pieces. For example, a monogrammed textured apron dress as well as a simple draped halter dress in golden orchid had remnants of classic BR but Webb’s ultra-cool spin gave them a new feel. All of the pieces could be transformed to work from day to night leaving the office-only idea behind for what is sure to be a new customer in the future. The instant face-lift Webb has provided is breathing new life into the classic staple brand and we can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve.
