Runway Report: Burberry Prorsum Fall 2016

Burberry made its customary dramatic impact on London Fashion Week with a polished, high-shine collection. According to Christopher Bailey, the show was a medley of some of his passions: military tailoring, the Mitford sisters, the Bloomsbury Group and some of his favorite art and music. It was “glam rock, with willies” the designer said backstage.

Once again Bailey found new ways to reimagine the brand’s traditional strengths, transforming their trademark trench coat into a variety of sparkly metallic looks. In fact, outerwear played a central role in this collection with traditional checks, oversize shearlings, and several snakeskin options making an appearance.

There was also sequined brocade mini dresses, t-shirt dresses with seventies elongated collars, flared and slim trousers, long-sleeve blouses, and plenty of boots. Burberry also introduced a new bag this season: the Patchwork, a petite shoulder bag with an oversize buckle.

For the first time ever, the entire collection was put on display at the brand’s Regent Street flagship store in London straight after the show. As reported, it will remain there for a week before moving to Burberry’s flagship in Paris. Shoppers in both cities and online will be able to pre-order selected pieces.
