Runway Report: Carolina Herrera AW18

Carolina Herrera’s farewell show articulated everything we have come to know and love about the designer over her nearly 40-year tenure as head of her namesake fashion house.  Her finale took guests on a nostalgic journey of her signature flourish.  Vibrant in color, feminine and dramatic in silhouette, tastefully classic and timeless in her flare.

Textures, colors, and patterns had no boundaries except to stay within the confines of elegance.  Evening gowns, dresses, outerwear, skirts and blouses all exuded the level of class and taste of Mrs. Herrera herself.  The lineup consisted of one statement piece after the next most of which combined with architectural accents with vivacious femininity.

Looks ranged from a floor-length yellow coat with a leopard fur collar and a bright red safari-print asymmetric midi-dress to more classic, but still bold looks such as an oversized white feather top paired with a long asymmetric black silk skirt.  The strapless silk faille gown with a dramatic floor-sweeping hem in various hues of wide blue stripes was nothing less than show-stopping.

The last third of the show changed tone slightly and truly gave guests iconic Carolina Herrera.  Every model walked the runway dressed in the designer’s signature crisp white button down shirt and colorful taffeta ball skirt, paired with a contrasting wide belt.

At the end of the show, Carolina descended the stairs along with her team – all of whom wore white coats – to say thank you and receive a bouquet of red roses from Wes Gordon, her successor.  Going forward, Ms. Hererra will serve as the brand’s ambassador.
