Runway Report: Chanel SS16

It was the season of travel and technology at Chanel’s Spring 2016 show, as rushed Edie Campbell strutted down a staged airport terminal wearing a multicolored checkered tweed jumpsuit while rolling a black Chanel suitcase.  In fact, Karl’s whole line-up of beauties seemed to be in quite a hurry to catch a plane and run off. to what we assume to be a variable of fabulous destinations.  The collection was not only inspired by travel, but also consistent in airplane keynotes on more than a few standouts – like a red, white and blue short sleeve sweater with repeating airplane motifs.

Between all the backwards caps, and leisurely travel gear, there were a few proper Chanel ladies in harshly tailored tweed suits, who clearly cared to dress up for their journey. But probably the most contemptible new object of desire (and Lagerfeld’s latest invention) was a pair of light-up Velcro sandals. A glance into the future, perhaps?  The idea of wearables was very much top of mind for Chanel and how exciting is it to see one of the oldest houses of couture take high fashion to a whole new level?
