Runway Report: Chanel SS18

Closing out fashion month in true Chanel style, Karl Lagerfeld took onlookers to the South of France – well, from their seats in the Grand Palais that is. Known always to create an experiential bang at fashion week, Karl chose to erect an almost-lifesize waterfall mirroring that of the famous Gorges du Verdon. His thought process? “Did you feel it?” asked Karl Lagerfeld afterward. “The molecules from the water, when you breathe them in, it’s very healthy for you! It’s why you feel good in places like this.” As the sun shone down on the fashion pack, a light breeze was felt in the air and for a moment, all was right in the world.

You may have noticed the rise in those famous Chanel glitter boots that instantly transform every look into a chic space-suit? Well, Lagerfeld’s SS18 collection was equal parts astronaut and 90’s metallic. An amalgamation of aquamarine tweed was woven into a pair of culottes and paired with a pastel blazer and translucent rain hat. Followed by the same tweed in a signature suit, married to transparent knee-high boots, and layered with an emerald green quilted handbag and hard-case clutch with double-c chain detailing. Showcasing a color wheel of eau de nil, cobalt blue, ocean water, clear sky, bright white and a dose of noir, Lagerfeld’s SS18 range was vibrant and botanical.

With fashion month over, we hope to take the clean and futuristic air of Chanel with us into the new season. After all, the fact that we feel something means that Karl Lagerfeld and fashion are doing their jobs.
