Runway Report: Gucci SS17

Amongst the smoke screened, pink metallic confetti curtain plus a bubblegum carpet, Alessandro Michele yet again managed to entrance onlookers as he presented a ‘disco inferno meets the 70’s’ style collection for SS17. Having grown an immense following in a short amount of time, Michele always has us thinking what will he do next?

Turns out, it was having a swarm of models take to the ornate carpet with their mile-high platforms (or the classic and reworked horsebit loafers), decked to the nines in everything from pussy-bow blouses, effortless ruffles and bright metallics, to royal brocades, floaty chiffons, structured silk and even some lightweight tweed.

Mishele commented that his club-vibed show was a lot like…”when you are in love, in a nightclub, but you are not in the right place, the person is not there?” With the models sporting a demure facial expression, we got the feeling it was a little like being all dressed up with nowhere to go.

A ruffle-tiered bustier dress with red heart and dagger embroidery suggested a certain level of heartbreak, mixed with the notion of recovery. Almost as though you were nearly over the pain, and were ready to wear your heart on your sleeve again. Followed shortly by an array of colors, we only hoped that the model donning purple metallic leggings, and a floral V-neck blouse with an oversized mustard flower would have walked towards us so we could’ve given her a hug and asked to borrow her ensemble.

Gucci’s accessories were just as decadent as the ready-to-wear; a collection of jeweled 70’s glasses, paired with organza veils, updated GG Maramont and Dionysus handbags, large regal earrings and some hand-held fans, you know, in case it all got a became too much.
