Runway Report: Isabel Marant AW18

Isabel Marant has always had western design tendencies; almost every one of her collections to date included some wild west inspo – whether it be stripes, frills, or polished hardware. She is a wonderer who collects cultural motifs and interlaces them into all of her collections, but Fall 2018 was exclusively about the Wild West. The ultimate leader in Parisian cool has decided that her Fall girl is more American then ever expected. Kaia and Gigi, among other familiar faces, walked the runway to country hits like Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game”.

From blanket coats to cowboy stripes, cowhide jackets, shearling and white leather – and of course denim shirting – it was one Clint Eastwood movie after another. Even her standard slouchy thigh-highs and popular fringed ankle boots were adorned with a metal toe cap. Much like elsewhere, there were stacks of 80’s sways with boxy, oversized suiting and knits as well as leather one-shoulder mini dresses. The styling was less Western and more French with somewhat messy but still big hair and demure makeup.
