Runway Report: Jonathan Simkhai Fall 2017

Jonathan Simkhai chose to stand with women’s rights at his New York Fashion Week show by lacing the entire front row with t-shirts donning “Feminist AF” on them. Alongside these was a note explaining that the brand stood tall with the CFDA’s efforts and therefore for every seat, the Jonathan Simkhai company would donate $5 to Planned Parenthood. It made for a positive and empowering Saturday and with that, the show began.

For his Fall 2017 collection, Simkhai wanted the models to manifest “women as a powerful force to be reckoned with.” With that thought, a parade of high-necks, silver eyelets, velvet and cinched in waists cascaded down the runway. Tonal shades of noir, almond, sundried tomato, midnight navy, champagne, and tan were festooned into desirable silhouettes. Hidden hints of Spanish glamor made for a mouthwatering collection filled with textured lace, regal beading, and smart denim.

We were tempted to pre-order the champagne silk trousers, with gold beaded bustier and matching tan stole, together with the midnight sky, sleeveless knitted dress with sporadic pearl detailing, chiffon underlay and velvet boots. After all, if rich fabrics don’t make a woman feel empowered we don’t know what does!
