Runway Report: Lanvin SS16

Getting a heart-shaped cookie upon arrival made for a saccharine beginning at Lanvin Spring 2016 presentation.  But things only got better. The show took place in a familiar setting – École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts – but with an unfinished feel, as if the set was being built in real time.  This element of unassembled rawness continued to translate into the collection itself with undone seams and threads straggling off backless draped gowns.  It felt like we were in creation with Elbaz, right then and there.

Then we saw a few decipherable themes – scintillating sequins, voluminous frocks, pop art prints, and exaggerated drapery.  Some backless dresses had visible foundations, bringing lingerie back to evening acceptance.

Then came the typographic prints with a mini, one side peplum sleeve dress that had the street address of Lanvin store in Paris.  Gentle reminder of where it all began.
