Runway Report: Marchesa SS17

Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig say they have no trouble thinking of ideas for each new season. “Georgina will call me in the morning and say, ‘I’ve had a dream, I’ve had a thought, we’re gonna do this,’” Craig said in a backstage interview. “The ideas just flow.” “At the end of the day we have our DNA in the clothes, that we’re very true to, and we enjoy it and we laugh” added Chapman.

For spring, the duo opted for a palette that celebrates light and the colors that appear in the sky from dusk to dawn; a paint box of lilac, light blue, and blush pink that was touched at times with an iridescent finish.

Corseted bodices, cascading ruffles and sequined 3-D flowers decorated a frothy range of organza, tulle and gowns, but the standout piece was a mint tulle column dress with flutter sleeves and an iridescent lamé and lace trim.

As red carpet regulars and with the Emmy Awards this weekend in Los Angeles, there’s no doubt their designs will take the spotlight again. “We have sketches out to a few people for the Emmys, but we can’t say with who,” said Chapman before the show.
