Runway Report: Moncler Gamme Rouge Fall 2015

Over the river and through the woods the foggy runway of Moncler Gamme Rouge appeared for their equestrian filled Fall 2015 runway show. Inspired by the sophisticated British rider, Giambattista Valli floored it with his theme combining activewear and high fashion (reminiscent of the Moncler Grenoble show during NYFW with a notably more preppy spin) to enable his vision to come to life.

The fabrics provided the backdrop as tartan plaids, checkered tweeds, fox fur, shearling and sheepskin mixed with non-traditional fibers (in the horseback riding sense) like neoprene and vinyl which presented themselves in outerwear and raincoats and although the combination sounds like it wouldn’t work, it provided a fun twist and gave us all a new idea on how to style ourselves for the outdoors.

However rich the fabrics appeared the detail of gold brocades, diamond quilting, treated leather collars, heraldic prints in both metallic and navy, an encrusted mesh-on-mesh embroidery and layered cut-out flower shaped appliques flecked down the center front of coats, along sleeves and even appearing on the helmets elevated the collection by providing a couture touch.

The silhouette although layered, (which was also a theme throughout the collection), remained flattering thanks to a-line shapes that ran within jackets, coats and skirts, cinching at the waist and floating out at the hip.

To complete the look (and the theme) the accessories were the stars. Exaggerated riding helmets, silk scarves tied close to the neck,  easy to wear riding boots were made in matching fabrics to complete the looks yet didn’t appear to be too match-matchy while a streamlined patent leather platform bootie with suede side buckles and heels matched with high socks provided a superb high fashion edge. The result?  The most polished gathering of equestrian’s we’ve ever seen ascend a Paris runway.
