Runway Report: Prada SS17

Described as what could possibly be her greatest collection to date, Prada delivers pure poetry in motion for SS 2017. As David Russell’s silent short film streams in the background, accompanied by loud retro show sounds, models walk down the ramp in a most ornamented array of rich silk pajama trousers, belted tonal leather jackets, patterned blouses with gargantuan powder-pink flowers, and sequins pencil skirts with fur and ostrich feather trim.

Today’s version of Prada female is monastic and regal – expectedly embellished, but bizarrely beautiful. In some ways, this artisanal collection was also about collecting and borrowing from other Prada growth stages and places. There was color-blocking and little silk tops with plissé pants or skirts, a silk jacquard blazer paired with sequins skirts. Then a new dimension kicked in with high wasted, overstated shorts and leather tech accessories.

This collection was everything. And it sent out a clear message – these clothes take time and creativity to conceptualize and create – they are worth the wait.
