Runway Report: Preen by Thornton Bregazzi

If it came down to choosing our favorite creative couple, Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton would be near the top of the list.

Drawing inspiration from their meeting ground on the Isle Of Man, northwest of England, rumor has it that it is also the land of witches. With that little theme in mind, (we’re not freaked out at all) the SS17 collection tiptoed down the runway with equal measures of witchery-hinted hair and makeup and strong Preen signatures.

The show opened with a healthy amount of punk-rock monochrome; school shirts with rough edges paired with knee-holed jeans were reminiscent of rebellious school kids hunting in the woods for the village witch. The show then took a turn for the brighter as models donned bubblegum pink with iridescent pairings, candy-floss ruffles, and dried flowers on their skin, the kind of uniform you’d find if you were with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

The true witch-like theme came to life towards the end of the show when we laid eyes on a sheer black high-low dress embellished in fantasy-colored sequins in shooting stars and trailing meteors. It almost looked like the phosphenes that would occur midair if a witch were to shout abracadabra before casting a spell!
