Runway Report: Sachin & Babi SS17

It was all about finding grace within strength at yesterday’s Sachin & Babi presentation. The husband and wife duo took a deep dive into the world of ballet this season, concentrating on the fluidity of their movement, the juxtaposition of how strength and grace interact and translating the entire idea into how it epitomizes the modern-day woman.

“We met with Sara Mearns – an NYC Ballet principal dancer – and she gave us great insight and we ended up filling up our mood board with photos of these dancers.”

The influence was not only seen within the clothing which consisted of floor-length dresses made up of layers of embroidered Italian lace, flats with silk tie-up lacing and beautiful piping but dancers from ballet beautiful showed just how transformative the pieces could be during the presentation. However, the biggest difference when compared to past seasons, they had the woman dictate the designs rather than telling her what she should be wearing.

“We really studied the woman this season. Women are redefining and challenging the concept of eveningwear. She’s calling the shots. She’s extremely savvy. She knows more than we do. She’s pretty much telling us you need to follow my needs. She doesn’t want to be boxed into eveningwear or RTW, she wants both.”
