Runway Report: Self-Portrait SS18

Self-Portrait’s Han Chong put down his signature lace baton this season and picked up a pail of lightweight, printed silk. Drawing inspiration from the much-loved icons of the 80’s, Mick and Bianca Jagger, Chong added in a good amount of Americana with it.

Asymmetrical silhouettes were still prominent, but this time adorned in patriotic-colored stripes, dolly-inspired polka dots, stars and floaty florals. The one-sleeved, bright-white ruffle dress full of stars is definitely a winner for that Summer wedding. Whereas, the burnt red, thick silk overalls paired with powder blue ribbed top is the right ensemble for a Summer Friday. We noticed that Chong branched out into separates too, offering that much more wearability. Take the white broderie anglaise ruffle top which was seen gliding down the runway married to monochrome lace-up shorts, ideal for the casual side of a closet.

SS18 is set to be a relatable one; pieces which appeal to all ages flooded the runway, and much like every season, we dog-eared a majority of the collection for the season to come
