Runway Report Spotlight: Elie Saab Fall 2017

After dazzling everyone with a haute couture collection, dialing it back to create RTW can often be difficult for some, however, Elie Saab not only managed to showcase his signature high-end and red carpet stunners but a more wearable and edgier extension of the brand was displayed as well. It was with the help of one of ballet’s most prolific scores as the source of inspiration (Giselle – a tale of human love crossing into the supernatural realm) and with Saab honing this source to create the end result, that we were swept away by a dark romantic storm of ethereal gowns, Swarovski brilliance and in the end, a drama filled runway for Fall 2017.

Thanks to the source of inspiration, a sultry shadow of mystery took the reigns throughout the collection. This was reflected in silhouettes of high collars and high slits with cinched waists which were filled with luxurious details like fur trimming, feathers, intricate beading, gold studs and velvet lacing, layers of multiple fabrications like leather, velvet and lace fashioned together and a numerous amount of sheer numbers made from tulle, organza and silk chiffon which were covered and layered in all the right places.

The color palette remained dark and muted in midnight blue, plum and black with hints of icy white as if being illuminated by moonlight. This was translated from clothing to accessories which stood out thanks to laser-cut lily motifs, an updated Le 31 bag and stockings with pearl like details that mimicked the lace found in their garment counterparts.
