Runway Report: Tom Ford

Always one to put on a fabulous show, Tom Ford sent an ultra sexy and luxe Spring 2014 collection down the runway.  Croc embossed leathers and second skin bandage dresses proved that as much as Tom can tailor a men’s 3-piece suit, he can also assemble an impeccable line of body conscious garments making every woman ooze stiletto stomping power from the inside, out.

While so many designers went for soft, neutral and romantically feminine – Mr. Ford went femme fetale with his low-lit, fully mirrored and hyper glossy reflective runway for his latest collection.  As the lights went up, sensuous leathers that seemingly hugged each models body transpired down the runway in jacket silhouettes on top with hemlines ending well above the knee below.  From his first look to his last, as a croc embossed jacket/dress combo translated to a behind baring, fully laced opulent gown, he took us from mild to wild in a matter of minutes.

With his seductive variation of fabrications and texture he gave a 3D like quality to his ensembles even when other than some geometric webbing and a touch of colorful mosaic mirrored show stoppers, his newest line stayed mainly monochromatic and distinctly chic in black, white & silver.

There was a balance to the skin baring collection with sophisticated outerwear that ranged from leather zipped moto-jackets, heavy wool and cashmere coats and a supporting cast of cropped rabbit long sleeved boleros that matched stunningly with pairs of tuxedo pants.  To close the show, exo-skeletons of corseted cage-like lace and sheer chiffon brought the negligee out of the bedroom, giving it a new home on the runway.
