Runway Report: Tommy Hilfiger SS18

Sunday’s TommyDrive show in Milan was the fourth and final in Tommy Hilfiger and Gigi Hadid’s hugely successful see-now-buy-now project.

“My vision for TommyNow was to create a global platform that we could take on tour to bring our show experience to new audiences around the world,” Hilfiger told WWD back in December. “It’s about the fusion of fashion, entertainment and pop culture and experiences, performances and inspiring interactions that are designed around our consumers. As one of the fashion capitals of the world, Milan is the perfect place to celebrate our next TommyNow show.”

Themed around Formula One racing, there were five Merecedes-AMG Petronas race cars in the middle of the arena, a racetrack-like runway circling the cars and a #TommyNow shop, where cropped sweatshirts, white fingerless driving gloves and checkerboard backpacks were plucked off the shelves by show-goers.

Just like any racing circuit, the collection featured a bold color palette of red, white, blue, and black, alongside piped leather pants, cropped moto jackets, patch-covered bombers, and checkered flag prints.

Swimwear featured heavily as did sleek bike shorts worn with oversized sweatshirts or cardigans, and bandeau tops worn with silky boxer shorts or under overalls. Keeping the ’90s revival alive were platform slides and clear plastic visors.

Overall, this was the perfect collection for the kids of today.
