Runway Report: Versace SS17

Just when we thought athleisure was a thing of the past, Donatella presents her SS 2017 presentation with none other than Naomi Campbell wearing a layered, two-piece skirt tracksuit, fittingly decorated with red and grey racing stripes.  The rest of the collection certainly wavered on athleticism or at the very least, it was clear that form and function continue to be of importance to the designer.

Donatella’s famous optical patterns, miniature pleats and metallic reflections were still present but were made more practical with the use of performance, stretch fabrics.  Her SS 2017 girl is on the move, slightly androgynous, always breaking the rules but most importantly is powerful. Versace still showed a line-up of slashed metal mesh constructed dresses, but instead of just looking erotic, these gowns were made more wearable and self-sufficient than ever before.
