Runway Review: Markus Lupfer Spring 2015

The German designer transported us to a laid-back beach café this season – think boardwalk, cocktails and surfboards aplenty. Why? So Markus Lupfer could showcase the young, fun collection he’d been working on. The sea theme opened the show, with a breezy turquoise jacquard-print dress, fixed with black straps, shoes and a tape-like fastening, to give the piece some edge. This continued into a zip-front playsuit, a sport-luxe feel, with jelly shoes – complete with chunky crystals (his first move into the footwear market). Lupfer went on to explore sweaters, bomber jackets and party pieces, some in vinyl holographic, and some in thicker, roll-neck territory, and all in different colours, from lurid orange to sea green. Each ensemble was en point and yet super wearable. The designer certainly hit the right wave this year, and we can’t wait for the new season.
