Runway Review: Zimmermann Spring 2015

After a Fall collection with a bit of a tough exterior, Nicky Zimmermann went back to her flirty feminine roots for a David Palladini tarot card inspired collection driven by movement for Spring 2015.  This astrological influence could be seen from head to toe as prints of constellations and zodiacs danced amongst gold jacquard dresses and Zimmermann’s signature bathing suits, while the moon took a variety of shapes on leather mules with suede stacked heels.

Determined to create pieces that were “light and airy” she succeeded with all lace layered slip dresses, wide-leg sequined trousers, handkerchief dresses and skirts with extended layers of ruffles that seemed to endlessly float down the runway. Unexpected combinations such as gold lurex with pastels and utilitarian gillets thrown over billowing layers of silk showcased Zimmermann’s signature ability to perform the perfect balancing act.  Additional contrast was provided by layers of metallic sunburst pleating that peered out under sexy off the shoulder mens shirting while trenches of pinstripes and leather were thrown over wrap shirts with a lace pant or a particularly stunning burnt floral floor-length gown.  Whether you choose to wear the look as a whole or take them apart piece by piece, it’s safe to say there was something for every type of woman this season on the Zimmermann runway.
