Shop the Trend: Trench Coats

We’ve hit our spring stride here in NYC, which means we’re happily starting to put away those winter parkas and slowly but surely becoming more comfortable donning lighter layers and shorter hemlines. One trend that made itself abundantly apparent from the SS18 runways (and frankly, the FW18 shows as well) was the trench coat. Perfect for those chillier mornings and nights with mild days in-between, the style (while ultra-chic in it’s original form) has been reinterpreted drastically with a variety of fun details, interesting fabrications, and festive colors that are a far cry from the classic belted khaki number we all know and love. There were animal prints and textured pastels at Alessandra Rich and J.Mendel, gold brocade with feather trim at Margiela and vinyl examples from Prabal and Elizabeth & James. From there, designers like Valentino and Giada Benincasa created bright Spring-friendly versions in colors like magenta, sky blue and jade while texture is out in full-force thanks to a delicate pink velvet from Fleur du Mal, teddy-bear feels from Yves Salomon and waves of ruffles from Liya and MSGM.

So while the weather has finally leveled off, take advantage, and sport one of our favorite edits of this perfect-for-spring piece of outerwear from the slideshow above!
