Shopping For: The New Noir, Part 3

– By Teresa Greenfeld –

Handbags are like babies.  We spend a ton of money for something relatively small; we carry them everywhere, never letting it leave our side, and who we are is contained within them.  Our bags are a snapshot of our personalities.   A basic, serviceable black tote?  You might as well keep your pumps in there, and wear your bright white tennis shoes over your socks and nude panty hose.

The main reason we choose a black handbag, is because it’ll ‘go with everything’.   Instinctively, we gravitate towards the most basic one, thinking that we’ll get more wear out of it – but black doesn’t have to mean boring. What we’re actually doing is bringing down every outfit we pair with it.  Who says that in order to  ‘go with everything’ something has to be plain?   Embellishments like fur, chains, trim, skin and meticulous structure can be just as versatile.   These details will  give it that something extra- without making your bag any less wearable.  Do your wardrobe justice.
