Spring 2013 London Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum

– By Nausheen Shah –

Unlike most shows during London Fashion Week, Burberry Prorsum found a way for the entire world to celebrate their collection.  Through three simultaneous live shows, Burberry blurred the physical and digital to bring the event from the custom made runway in Hyde Park, to their new Regent Street flagship, to the world.  And a spectacle it was.
As the venue, resembling that of a greenhouse, slowly retracted the ceiling’s blinds, light fell upon the catwalk and opened the eyes of the viewers.  Soon thereafter, models began prancing down the catwalk in satin and metallic python wedges, telling us a story of corsets, capes and trenches.  Oh my.
Christopher Bailey made his first statement with a fuchsia silk ruched swimsuit and ivory wool cape playing with notes of sexiness and sophistication.  As the showed continued, ruching of dresses, jackets and coats became apparent as well as a series of cropped capes in metallic leathers, transparent plastics and rich satins.
But Bailey’s greatest achievement came when he took Burberry’s classic trench and demonstrated an evolution throughout the show.   He morphed these staple cloaks from vibrant shades of ombréd orchid, sapphire and emerald into metallic painted laces.  He concluded with extraordinary hues of sequined and feathered peacock coats which were exquisite to say the least.
And if you cannot wait for your Burberry Prorsum threads until next Spring, don’t fret.  The Spring Summer 2013 collection is available for purchase on Burberry.com for one week bringing the collection to you in just 8 weeks through the brands ‘Runway to Reality’ initiative.  So now all your plaid wishes and trench dreams may come true.
