Summer Hair 101

While we all love the summer time, there’s so much of it that can be detrimental to your hair. Because of this I wanted to put together some of my favorite tips, tricks and products and even looks that will give your hair a rest and let it shine it’s brightest all season long.

Tip 1: An easy go-to for summer is the ponytail however, I’ve seen it cause tons of stress on the hair and cause breakage if not approached mindfully so make sure to remove your elastics carefully! A full summer of pulling them out of your hair will result in tattered tresses! Try a brand like Blax hair elastics (my personal favorite) known to be a brand that snags less than others.
Tip 2: Put away the sticky products. Like your winter coat, there is a time and a place for certain hair products, so in the summer, when you’re moving more, touching your hair more and overall out and about more, hairsprays will just hinder your look by attracting dirt and debris which will create an overall heaviness. My favorite products for the summer season are oils. Try letting them air dry into your ends for a “model off duty” vibe and also protect from the elements.

Tip 3:  Pair your messy with accessories- so instead of trying to tame a bed head moment, or try to glam up your day at the beach, my best tip is to just pair the mess with something chic or fun to make your un-done-ness look curated. For example, while OP’s look below was done this way on purpose, beautiful hair accessories like these from Jennifer Behr can transform any beachy wave into the perfect evening look. You could also tame bangs with colorful bold pins, throw hair into a topknot with a flow below it in the back, or just braid a scarf into your unmanageable lengths to make a bold boho statement.
