Travel: The Ham Yard Hotel

On a recent trip to London, we paid a visit to one of Olivia’s all-time favourite hotels – Ham Yard Hotel. The hotel is impeccably positioned in the midst of Soho, yet cleverly hidden in a tree-filled courtyard oasis. It feels astonishingly private and discreet, yet it is always at capacity with just the right kind of hustle – the kind of busy that keeps guests captivated and excited. The hotel has a boutique feel, where welcoming faces remember your name and respond to all your needs with speed, efficiency and level of hospitality that is truly unequalled.

The garden that leads to the main lobby entrance has a striking bronze sculpture centerpiece by one of world’s foremost sculptors, Tony Cragg.  The interiors are designed by Kit Kemp in her famous and award-winning modern British style.  Her imaginative method and colorful spirit is evident in even the smallest of details.

The hotel boasts 91 individually designed bedrooms and suites with various configurations including 24 apartments.  The rooms are quite large and the floor plan well thought-out – but it’s the little things that leave a long-lasting impression – such as towel warmers or a great selection of healthy snacks in the mini bar, or tantalising chocolates by Cocoa Cream accompanied by a personal note from Laura Sharpe, General Manager, right upon arrival. Throughout our stay, small sweet gestures of appreciation would secretly show up at our doorway or bedside table.

The hotel has an award-winning restaurant and bar with outdoor dining available – and it is a difficult task to pick one favourite dish.  In addition, the menu is frequently changing to ensure that the freshest, seasonal ingredients and best of British produce is used.  In 2016, Ham Yard was awarded “Best Afternoon Tea” at the prestigious Harden’s London Restaurant Awards – their afternoon tea menu includes extraordinary cakes, macaroons, home-made jams, as well as savoury, gluten free and vegan options. The hotel’s most recent venue addition is an incredible rooftop terrace with clear views of the Soho skyline – the perfect spot for a pre-dinner cocktail.

Finally, guest can enjoy a full range of body and beauty treatments in the Soholistic Spa or in the comfort of their room. The spa offers steam room and showers, relaxation area, as well as a hypoxic gym.

Ham Yard does not miss a beat – it is a brilliant sanctuary and a perfect home away from home.
