Travel to: Soho Farmhouse

The rolling hills and gold stone houses of the Cotswolds in the UK certainly makes for an idyllic getaway. The region is home to supermodels, musicians and politicians alike; add to this famed eateries, shopping hotspots and it’s no wonder that the Soho House empire chose it for its latest outpost.

Set in 100 acres of Oxfordshire countryside, the exclusive members club treatment starts on arrival. On pulling up at the gatehouse (otherwise known as reception), a fleet of porters (Farm Hands) are on-hand to park your car, unload the luggage and then transport you (via vintage milk float) to your luxury cabin.

Home for the next few days, your private cabin comes complete with a wrap-around veranda, rocking chairs and a huge outdoor tub, or, roll-top bath alongside the log burner indoors. A kitchenette features their own-brand butter, sourdough bread, cheese, granola and a well-stocked bar including classic cocktail mixes. Move to the bathroom and you’ll find shelves full of Cowshed goodies.

Soho Farmhouse is quite the retreat, boasting activities that include horse riding, swimming at The Boathouse, the Cowshed spa, tennis, the gym, rowing on the lake, five-a-side soccer and the Electric Barn Cinema.

If whiling away the hours in a bar or over delicious food appeals more to your inner psyche, you’re simply spoiled for choice.

Move to the bathroom and you’ll find shelves full of Cowshed goodies. New for 2017, a village of bell tents, each with their own wood burning stove, centre around an outdoor kitchen and firepit, perfect for toasting marshmallows on a balmy evening.

Accommodation facilities don’t stop there – from 6.30pm another vintage milk float, converted in to a mobile bar, starts its tour of the cabins, offering bespoke cocktails. Then, come breakfast time, another arrives, this time serving tasty treats direct to you door. We thoroughly recommend the mashed avocado with chilli and rocket on sourdough with poached eggs!

Soho Farmhouse is quite the retreat, boasting activities and amenities that include horse riding, swimming at The Boathouse, the Cowshed spa, tennis, gym, rowing on the lake, five-a-side soccer and the Electric Barn Cinema. For foodies, dining experiences are often accompanied by short films and documentaries, giving members an exclusive evening with top chefs, food, drink and a turn in the sumptuous cinema.

If whiling away the hours in a bar or over said delicious food appeals more to your inner psyche, you’re simply spoiled for choice. The site boasts a deli, in which you can take an informal brunch, a number of bars ranging from glamorous cocktails to the feel of a rustic country pub, at the Mill Room and the main barn where your palate’s preferences can be dialled up or down – ‘Comfy Farm’ for a cosy lunch and ‘Fancy Farm’ for a refined dinner.

Also new for 2017 is Pen Yen, a Japanese grill overlooking the infinity pool and lake at The Boathouse. Plus, there’s the Barwell Barn where chefs serve up Sunday roasts and that can be hired for private functions plus the Cookhouse, their on-site cookery school.

The heart of the Farm is a courtyard area, surrounded by the various barns, with an outdoor fireplace at the centre, surrounded by covered alfresco lounges and benches stacked high with blankets to enjoy drinks and the relaxed atmosphere well in to the evening.

For those looking to pick up a gift or souvenir from the stay, the Farm Shop, The Store and Wine Cellar provide local produce, a beautifully curated selection of homewares, fashion and fine wines from across the globe.

Soho Farmhouse far exceeds expectations – a traditional members club, hotel or spa it is not… A retreat doesn’t even quite cut it – this is a beautifully planned, beautifully built private village, where every loyal member and guest’s whim has been carefully considered. Indeed, there’s not really a reason to ever leave the place and we can’t wait to head back.
