Trend Report SS17: Pinstripes

For our second trend report from the SS17 runway season, it’s all about a play on pinstripes as designers warped and played with them, quite literally turning them on their head. There were various thicknesses and inverted colored prints paired together to give depth to ensembles (like at Lanvin and Victoria Beckham) that could otherwise read flat.  They were manipulated into drapes of silk and satin that provided a more non-traditional and elegant touch (a la Giambattista Valli) but our favorite method could be seen by the numerous amounts of ultra feminine pieces that juxtaposed a print that’s typically reserved strictly for suiting. For example, Self-Portrait had them displayed on off-the shoulder and ruffle accented blouses and while Johanna Ortiz injected them into her always flirtatious pieces, Whistles knotted the front of spaghetti strap tops and Aquilano.Rimondi created thigh-baring slit skirts providing unexpected silhouettes.
