Valentine’s Day 101

Although we like to think that everyday with your loved ones should be spent like Valentine’s Day (who doesn’t like to be reminded that they’re loved?) for those that perhaps need a gentle reminder, we have February 14th to signify a day to shower those that we love (whether it be a significant other, best friend or good ol’ mom and dad) with, well, love.

Now, while you can certainly go the extravagant route – fine jewelry, pre-fixe dinner, etc – we like to stick to tride and true classics – think floral arrangements, cards, candles and sweets. The trick here is making them count (no drugstore chocolates or bodega flowers here). For example, one of our favorite sweet shops, Sugarfina, has an entire Valentine’s Day category full of caramel filled puckered lips, sugary hearts and beautiful chocolates to satisfy any sweet tooth. Another go-to? A one-stop shop like tokyo-milk.com where the cards are chic, the packaging is as beautiful as the products inside and you can even get the men in your life a little something too.

When it comes to flowers, there’s no one that we trust more than BLOOM and this year they’re featuring “Valentine’s classics reinvented”.  The first one is called “enchantment” (cascading purple phalaenopsis orchids, steel grass, black rectangular plate glass vase), second is “cherish” (blush garden roses, ranunculus, calla lilies, hydrangea, and anemones), and the third is “adore” (pink garden roses, black bubble bowl).

Enchantment: This is all about the simplistic beauty of the lush mass of magenta phalaenopsis  orchids and the shape that is created in the design which makes it feel dramatically elegant and natural.

Cherish: This design’s flowers are exquisitely romantic. The mix of creamy blush tones layered one over the other are just delicious presented in a very modern way.

Adore: Love the bright pop color of the hot pink garden roses contrasted against the black glass globe. The clean geometric shapes of both the garden roses and the container are whimsical while still being both contemporary and chic.
