Where to Eat: Sky Garden

Sky Garden by Rhubarb, London’s current culinary darling, sits atop 20 Fenchurch Street, the award-winning creation by world-renowned architect Rafael Viñoly. Affectionately dubbed ‘The Walkie Talkie’, the building provides unrivalled panoramic views of the British capital and making the most of this is the gourmet, garden oasis occupying  floors 35 to 37.

Upon entering number 20, you’re hurtled up to the 35th floor and as the elevator doors open you immediately experience the curved wall-to-wall glass structure and lush gardens by renowned landscape architect Gillespies, which elegantly envelope the bar and restaurants.

The bar, Sky Pod, offers a relaxed cafe feel during the day and a chic, urban getaway by night. Come the fall, guests can enjoy warm cocktails while they recline with a faux fur or cashmere blanket. Darwin Brasserie, one level up, caters to the breakfast crowd, then provides familiar, British sourced classics in to the evening.

During London Fashion Week, we were lucky enough to sample dinner at Fenchurch Bar and Grill on level 37. We navigated our way through the exquisite menu, tasters and sommelier’s suggestions, enjoying the innate attention to detail that Rhubarb’s teams are known for. This stemmed from our perfectly presented salt-baked beetroot with whipped goat’s cheese starter, to melt-in-the-mouth pork from the Goodwood Estate and after-dinner cocktails, of course inspired by the surrounding botany, not to mention the team’s attentive, expert  service.

Sky Garden is quite the sight to behold – a beautiful combination of London’s highest landscaped public gardens and eateries that boast the talents of executive head chef Jeremy Brown and head chefs Zac Whittle and Arnaud Delannay overseeing them. We can’t recommend a visit highly enough, to revel in this truly unique city centre venue, breathe in the staggering views and enjoy new dining experiences that are surely set for big things.
